About the Author
Steven Saltzman, MPSE is a music editor and composer based in Los Angeles, CA. He received his Bachelors of Music in composition and film scoring from Berklee College of Music and is a certified Avid Pro Tools instructor. He has been editing music for film and television for the past eighteen years. In addition, Steven has lectured nationally, and he has created and taught numerous music editing courses. A recipient of a Golden Reel Award for music editing, Saltzman is also a member of the Motion Picture Editors Guild, the Society of Composers and Lyricists, and he sits on the board of the Motion Picture Sound Editors Guild.

MANDATORY reading for FILM MUSIC practioners (and those in related fields)!

I treated myself to this fantastic book this past holiday season, and am totally digging it so far :-) Though I could wait and post a review upon completion of reading, I honestly can't contain myself! Congratulations to the author on creating a film/audio book that *definitely* fills a void. IMHO, there is nothing out there that focuses on this aspect of the FILM MUSIC process, with such detail.
Plus, any book that features a BERNARD HERRMANN quote in its opening moments is bound to be fantastic, heh heh! This will be a permanent fixture in my library, and will remain within easy reach at all times.
(Thanks too, to Focal Press, for yet another amazing audio-related book!)

An Excellent Book!

This is really a very well written book. Lots of practical information as well as career advice is included. Saltzman’s writing is relaxed and easy to read, and includes quite a few excellent interviews, so it’s a pleasure to go through the chapters. The topic is very complex, but this well organized book takes a logical tour through necessary skills and approaches. I would recommend it to beginners as well as seasoned veterans of the film making process.

I can confidently say that this book would be an invaluable tool for anyone wanting to become a music editor for film and tv.
I've had the pleasure of watching this guy work, and I can say first-hand he knows his stuff. He's been a music editor for the better part of 20 years, and his meticulous work ethic is no doubt displayed in the thoroughness of the material.
A must have for anyone trying to get their bearings in this industry.
