Richard E. Ocejo is Assistant Professor of Sociology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice of the City University of New York (CUNY), where he teaches research methods and urban sociology. His research uses ethnographic methods to analyze urban and community issues, culture, public space, and work in the contemporary city.

Excellent. Already going to use it for my class

This is more than a reader, it is a guide that uses a fantastic selection of classic articles (e.g., Gans, Bourgois, Whyte, Liebow, Stack) and 'new classics' (e.g., Lloyd, Pattillo, Duneier) that are given greater context and meaning by Ocejo. Students have the opportunity to read ethnographies, but learn about them. This would be great in an ethnography class, or in an urban class, where you can pair it with another kind of methodological source, like Logan & Molotch's Urban Fortunes or Wacquant's Urban Outcasts. An excellent resource.
