Not a big fan of this book!

I was looking for a good summer read to prepare for the upcoming school year and a friend recommended this one. It's all the authors opinion and not much facts or valuable information. He says on page 180 supporters of the death penalty are "driven by retribution, fear, and hatred". Apparently if you have an opinion different from his you are a hateful person, ridiculous! Thank goodness I only spent $10 to rent his ebook!

Great Reference Book but Lacks Substance for College Textbook

I purchased this book in hopes of using it for a Curriculum Development course at the Graduate level. Although the book expanded my knowledge of postmodern curriculum and other critical theories, there are many other books (such as Understanding Curriculum by William Pinar) that would be more appropriate for a college text. As stated in another review, many of the same concepts are stated several times, and the author does not clearly explain how to develop curriculum in the postmodern era. I will keep and use this book as a reference for my course but not adopt it as a textbook for a course. The online resources, including his glossary, would add meaningful resources to your curriculum course.

Postmodern Education

This is a great textbook about change from modern to postmodern education in our school system. It is well written and has great stories from the author about his own personal experiences in education. Dr. Slattery is able to make a great textbook for new and veteran teachers alike about the changing face of public education. I would recommend this book to any teacher interested in learning about this new approach to teaching and curriculum.
